Theatre of Four is a troupe that functions regularly at the Museum of Contemporary Art in the Four Domes Pavilion in Wroclaw.
The idea to establish a theatrical troupe in the museum arose from the need for a multi-level reception of the artwork. The Theater of Four yields an essence of both museum and theatre, preceding each show with a guided tour of the exhibition and creating one-of-a-kind performances amongst the paintings and sculptures. Thanks to the nature of the group’s activities – creating in situ, in close connection and contact with the artworks, the audience and the environment – the museum, the gallery become a creative studio. Performances that we create in relation to works of art result from our individual, preceded by substantive preparation of sensations accompanying the interpretation of works of art, are a story of reception, an attempt to respond to the curatorial intention of the exhibition, an attempt to capture the performative possibilities and energy that the art object sends out.
Since 2019, we have realised more than 10 performative finissages of temporary exhibitions at the Four Domes Pavilion of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Wroclaw, performatively closed the exhibition of Magdalena Abakanowicz’s work at the National Museum in Poznan, recorded a film etude inspired by the exhibition “Marek Oberländer and Jan Lebenstein. Totemic Sign of the Human Figure,” we collaborated with the Magiel Gallery in Wroclaw, organised four performative readings at the permanent exhibition in the Four Domes Pavilion of the Museum of Contemporary Art, and had the pleasure of appearing in a promotional film for the Four Domes Pavilon of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Wroclaw.
